Percival

In Lord of the Flies Percival is described as ‘not … very attractive even to his mother’. He is one of the ‘littluns’ who first sees a ‘beast’ on the island. Under pressure from Ralph to explain what he has seen, Percival recounts his name and address but is unable to complete his telephone number, the shock of the shipwreck making this simple recollection unattainable. Through loud sobs, Percival is able to whisper to Ralph that the beast ‘comes from the sea’. During the final scene with the Naval Officer, Percival once again tries to communicate his name, address and telephone number.  This time he is unable to get any further than ‘I’m …’
