In the episode, Wragg Sykes explores this extraordinary novel in relation to recent scientific developments in our understanding of the Neanderthals. She praises The Inheritors, stating that ‘the language is incredible … the ideas are incredible’ and notes that Golding’s vision of the Neanderthals was ahead of the scientific knowledge at the time.
