Rites of Passage in the WSJ’s list of stories set on ships

Rites of Passage, the first book of Golding’s Sea Trilogy, has been included in Elizabeth Lowry’s list of stories set on ships, published in the Wall Street Journal. Lowry draws attention to the humour in Golding’s novel, particularly the protagonist Edmund’s ‘wittily cruel observations about his fellow passengers’. Rites of Passage won the Booker Prize in 1980, and was adapted into a mini-series starring Benedict Cumberbatch.
